Hall of Fame
Played First Team football for three years (two undefeated), and baseball for five and was captain of baseball in '42; also played hockey and squash for three years. Won the school tennis tournament in sophomore and senior years and represented the School in the New England Interscholastic Tournament. A natural athlete, he pitched at Harvard, was on the football squad before joining the service, and also played on the squash team. During World War II, he pitched approximately 50 games for the Marine Corps in the Pacific with several no-hitters. During the first summer after the war he pitched semiprofessional baseball without a loss.
