Scott Woodward

A former assistant coach at the University of Kentucky and the University of Pittsburgh, Coach Woodward brings a wealth of football expertise and a demonstrated commitment to the development of student-athletes both on and off the field.

"I'm so excited to have Coach Woodward joining Middlesex,” states Middlesex Athletic Director, Craig Najarian. “Throughout the entire hiring process it was clear to me that he was the perfect fit for not only the football program, but the school as a whole. He's certainly a talented coach, but what impressed me most was his obvious ability to connect with our students and build relationships with ease. I know he's coming to us from the highest level of college sports, but you don't feel that when you speak with him. That's pretty unique."

As an assistant coach at the University of  Kentucky, Coach Woodward oversaw a wide receiver unit that produced two All-Americans and two current NFL receivers. Before joining Kentucky, he served as the Offensive Quality Control coach for the University of Pittsburgh, where he helped develop current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett. “Coach Woody is one of my favorite coaches that I have gotten the opportunity to work with,” says Pickett. “His knowledge from playing and coaching multiple positions has helped me have a more complete understanding of the game. Add that with his ability to build relationships with players is what makes him a phenomenal coach.”

From 2015-2018, Coach Woodward served as an offensive assistant at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts, where he played quarterback for four seasons. A Massachusetts native, Coach Woodward played high school football at Mahar Regional High School, quarterbacking the Senators to back-to-back Division III titles and earning an all-state selection his senior season

Coaches around the country are expressing their well wishes and optimism for Coach Woodward as he joins a storied Middlesex football program. Former UMass Head Coach Mark Whipple says, "I am very excited for Scott Woodward and the Middlesex football program! Scott has tremendous insight, knowledge and experience in building a successful program. He and [and his wife] Kelly will be a great asset to the student-athletes and the entire community.”

University of Pittsburgh Head Coach Pat Narduzzi echoes Coach Whipple’s enthusiasm: “Scott Woodward was absolutely tremendous for our program at the University of Pittsburgh and I have no doubt he will be equally outstanding for the entire Middlesex School community. Scott is a gifted coach and also a dedicated teacher who focuses on the overall development of young men. His impact will go well beyond the football field. I want to offer my enthusiastic congratulations to Scott and everyone at Middlesex School on this excellent appointment."
