Since its origin in the early 2000s, the track and field program at Middlesex School has accomplished a great deal, growing from a small group of runners to a full team with competitors in every event on the track and in the field. Our team competes in the ISL (Independent School League) and the NEPSTA (New England Prep School Track Association) Division III, and is very competitive in both championship meets at the end of each season. The team trains each day at Middlesex as well as at Emerson Field in downtown Concord, where we have access to excellent facilities.
Across events, our coaching philosophy focuses on improving overall fitness, individual technique, and mental fortitude. We want our athletes to be students of their particular events. Middlesex track has boasted many individual ISL and NEPSTA champions in a wide range of events, and we hold many meet records at these events. Our program focuses not only on individual technical training, but also on accountability and dedication to a team, for the team trophies that we have earned have been some of the most special ones. The Middlesex Track and Field teams have taken home a team trophy at the league championships or the New England Championships each year since 2010.
In addition, the program has been a starting point for many track and field athletes whose success has surpassed the ISL and NEPSTA level. In recent years our athletes have competed in the Adidas Dream Mile, been named New Balance National All-Americans, and earned top places on all-time records lists within the state and nationally. Many of our athletes have also gone on to compete in track and field at the collegiate level, at institutions such as Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, Syracuse, Bowdoin, Williams, Colby, and Kenyon. We are excited to help our track and field athletes make this transition.
