I am excited to learn of your interest in the Middlesex Girls’ Ice Hockey Program! Our team boasts a strong tradition in the Independent School League (ISL) as well as in New England. We have competed in the New England playoffs seven out of the last thirteen seasons and marked school history in 2008 by competing for the first time in the championship game. In 2012, our team posted an overall record of 22-3 (the best in program history) and placed second in both the ISL and the Class B New England Championship Tournament. In addition, during the 2009 and 2010 seasons our team was awarded the ISL Sportsmanship Award as voted upon by all the coaches in the league. This award illustrates the qualities that Middlesex hockey players exemplify: they are competitive and hard-working but also have respect for their teammates and opponents.
Our team is made up of players who are dedicated to developing their skills, minds and bodies, and who all love to train and have fun. As a team, we not only work hard and play hockey here at Middlesex, but also we enjoy team dinners and overnight trips. For the past five seasons, we have participated in the Southfield Holiday tournament and competed against teams that we do not have the opportunity to play during the regular season. The tournament always proves to be a wonderful bonding experience for the girls and provides valuable exposure to some of the top Division I and III college ice hockey coaches in the country.
As a former Harvard University and Boston Pride player, I am excited to teach the skills necessary to be a good player and teammate to all and to give those interested the tools to help them compete at the next level. Having played Division I college hockey and professionally, I cannot help but share my enthusiasm for the sport and all the opportunities it offers young women. Former Middlesex players have gone on to play varsity hockey at Boston University, Brown, Harvard, Princeton, Middlebury, Williams, Wesleyan, Colby, Holy Cross, Hamilton, and Connecticut College. Our coaching staff as well as college counseling office are committed to helping guide you throughout the recruiting process, whether you aspire to play at the Division I or III level.
Thank you for your interest in Middlesex and please contact me with any questions you might have. In addition, please send me your game schedule and keep me up to date on your progress this season. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Briana Mastel
