CONCORD, Mass. - The Middlesex football team overcame a sloppy start and defeated Roxbury Latin 30-14 before a large Family Weekend crowd on October 25. The win evens the Zebras' record at 3-3 on the season.

Roxbury Latin took the opening kick and marched 77 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead with 6:58 remaining in the opening quarter. Middlesex came right back and were poised to answer before a fumble at the two yard line gave the ball back to Roxbury Latin.

The Middlesex defense forced a three and out and the Zebras took over at their own 44 yard line but another fumble on the first play of the drive handed the ball back to Roxbury Latin. The defense stood tall, however, and after four plays Roxbury Latin was again forced to punt.

It was at this point that the Middlesex offense got rolling and put together a 12-play, 78- yard drive that culminated in a Frankie Forrest (Norwood, Mass.) one yard touchdown run. Sam Elfner (Cohasset, Mass.) tacked on the extra point, making the score at 7-7.

The kickoff unit then turned in a big play, as Felix Wetzel (Concord, Mass.) recovered Elfner's pooch kick, setting Middlesex with another possession at the Roxbury Latin 34 yard line. From there it took seven plays and the Zebras again hit pay dirt on a Luke Felago (Duxbury, Mass.) scramble on fourth and goal to take a 14-7 lead with 2:32 to play in the first half.

The defense forced another three and out and with less than a minute to play until halftime, Felago found the end zone on another run, this time from 16 yards out, and it was 21-7 Middlesex at the half.

Middlesex received the opening kick of the second half and when their drive stalled in the red zone, Elfner drilled a 36-yard field goal to make the score 24-7.

Roxbury Latin drove into Middlesex territory on their next possession but Tommy Callaghan (Boxboro, Mass.) registered his first interception of the season to give the ball back to the Zebras.

Fourth quarter touchdowns by Forrest and Roxbury Latin completed the scoring and provided the 30-14 final.

Middlesex returns to action on October 31 when they travel to Groton for a 5:45 kickoff.
