Another rainy day, but the MXGVT came out to battle on the indoor courts. The St. Mark's team has some very strong, very hard hitters, so we knew there were going to be some challenges. Coming out strong, our number two doubles, Zoe and Katie Le put the pressure on and held it, with some fantastic slice to lob plays that had college level tennis written all over them - smart and well executed. At number three doubles, Milly Noble and Julia Blake had a slow start, but figured out how to rise to the occasion and execute poaches and thoughtful plays with maturity, poise and a desire to win. Going into singles, we had a 2-1 lead, where it could be anyone's game. Co-Captain Isla Ferrari was battling in the first set, where St. Mark's made a few more shots, but like any good fighter, Isla dominated in the second set, showing the grit needed to win and move her opponent around the court, tiring her out. On the third set tiebreaker, Isla fought for every point and did not let the pressure get to her, pulling out a 10-8 victory. Unbeknownst to Julia Blake, her match was to be the deciding factor for the victory, coming out very strong in the first set, she showed what she can do as a baseline player, but in the second St. Mark's began to show up. For the third set tiebreaker, Julia's posture, attitude and confidence shifted - it was a clear change that helped her dominate the third, as she went back to playing her game. All the girls were holding hands for match point - and she did it with a 10-4 decisive win.Â
