MX Girls' Varsity Hockey hosted the rival Zebras from Groton on Wednesday evening for a classic ISL battle. The visitors found the back of the net in the first off a MX defensive breakdown but Middlesex used the first intermission to regroup and came out flying in the second period. After several quality scoring opportunities by both teams, MX tied the game as senior Olivia Vlaccich  drilled one in off the post after a terrific pass from sophomore Cassidy Bruno. With less than a minute to play in the second, Middlesex took a penalty and Groton capitalized to regain the lead. Both teams continued to battle as MX goalkeeper Viv Cook denied multiple shots and the MX defense stayed disciplined. With less than six minutes to play, sophomore Janie Martin found herself alone in the neutral zone and buried the equalizer on a breakaway. The Middlesex penalty kill unit was stellar as they thwarted two Groton powerplays in the closing minutes of the period to send the game to overtime. Junior Finley Crosby won a huge faceoff in the offensive zone and sophomore Lily McTeague collected her own rebound before slipping the puck across the net to a wide open Janie Martin who knocked in the game winner. 

Middlesex returns to the ice on Saturday in another ISL matchup against Rivers at 3:45p at home.
