On a seasonably warm day the Middlesex Zebras welcomed the Rivers Red Wings to their turf for a battle of two top ISL teams. Middlesex came out firing and put two goals in during the first quarter, one by freshman Tessa Rusconi and the second by sophomore Avery Swenson. However, Rivers was able to convert a beautiful goal on a corner in the 2nd quarter making the game 2-1 going into the half. For much of the 2nd half, Middlesex controlled the play with beautiful passing combinations led by Anna Bonazzoli and Sophie Watson. And yet, Rivers did have plenty of chances and junior goalie, Anna Rusconi, had several amazing saves and kicks that went outside the circle. Sophie Watson had a beautiful heads-up play to round out the scoring and the game ended 3-1. Overall, it was a total team effort and they look forward to build on this momentum as they travel to Thayer on Saturday.
