On a picture perfect Friday afternoon, Middlesex Varsity Field Hockey defeated visiting New Hampton School 6-0 to open the 2023 season. Senior captain Avery Taylor put the Zebras on the board in the first quarter off a beautiful pass from senior Siena Berardinelli. Berardinelli scored her first of three on the day in the second quarter followed by senior captain Molly Nye to give MX a 3-0 lead into halftime. Middlesex controlled the play in the midfield and the Zebra defensive line held strong, thwarting New Hampton's fast offensive breaks. Sophomore Lily McTeague scored the final goal of the day in a scrum in the circle. MX goalies Regan Fitzgerald and Anna Rusconi combined for the shutout. MX returns to the field on Wednesday afternoon at home against Exeter.
