The Middlesex Varsity Field Hockey team traveled to Class A powerhouse Phillips Exeter for a non-league matchup Wednesday afternoon. The game was back and forth the entire match with both teams trading the momentum and scoring opportunities at various times. MX goalie Regan Fitzgerald '24 saved a penalty stroke to keep the game scoreless in the first half. The Zebras took a 1-0 lead when junior Molly Nye rifled a shot past the Exeter keeper. However, the Exeter team did not back down and capitalized on a MX defensive breakdown to tie the game. The regulation ended 1-1 and the teams went into overtime. Not long into OT, Finley Crosby '25 crossed a ball into the circle to a waiting Siena Berardinelli '24, who buried home the game winner. It was a fun, well-fought game by two talented teams. The Zebras will return to their home field for the first ISL game of the season vs. St. Mark's on Saturday at 2:30p.
