Girls' Varsity Tennis Defeats Tabor, 13-2

4/14/2022 9:58:00 AM

Yesterday, we drove down to the seaside campus at Tabor, greeted with sunshine and some high coastal winds. Ready to play out the gate, co-captain, Neha Kommeneini, was faced with a consistent baseliner who understood the wind patterns, but Neha figured out her own aggressive baseline game quickly and stayed the course to hit one more ball--recognizing one side pushed the ball out, while the other side made it much easier to hit aggressively and the ball would stay in. Mixing up shots and keeping focus was the name of the game today.

Taylor Portlock, came to play, and quickly discovered that keeping one more ball in from the opponent helped her secure a steady 6-3 lead – we always say, "Never change a winning strategy" and she implemented that, stepping up the level in the second set with a 6-2 defeat.

By the end of the singles, we had only dropped one set. On to doubles and everyone was mixing in great formations and following their shots trying to be aggressive at the net. Doubles is like speed chess and needs thoughtful strategy, but also the willingness to adapt quickly to change to unexpected shots, and yesterday, with wind adaptations, precise shot selection and lots of high-fives from teammates, we were able to accomplish our goals.

Next up, Nobles at Middlesex this Saturday. It is sure to be a challenge, but we are ready.
