Not the start to the season the Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey team was looking for, but plenty of room to grow and up the compete level. Down 2-0 in the 2nd period, newcomer Finley Crosby '25 found the back of the net after battling hard to bury her own rebound lying in front of the net. Kents Hill quickly responded on a breakdown in the Middlesex defensive zone, sending the girls into the third period trailing 3-1. A few minutes into the third period, senior Brooke Nye '22 caught a fast break on a great pass from Finley Crosby '25 and used her speed to skate past the opposing defense and slide the puck past the Kents Hill goalie on a shifty deke. The bench erupted with energy and the girls continued to fight. With under two minutes to go in regulation, senior co-captain Alana Burm '22 buried the game-tying goal on assists from linemates Caroline Cervini '23 and co-captain Ava Romano '22. Despite great effort to come from behind, the team fell short when Kents Hill scored the game winning goal with 1:11 left in the over-time period. The Zebras face off against Proctor Academy next Wednesday 12/8 and look to earn their first win of the 2021-2022 season.
