On a brisk fall day, the Middlesex Zebras traveled west to play the Cushing Penguins. Always known for being fast and athletic, the Penguins controlled the field for the first half of the game, stifling any Middlesex opportunities. However, great defensive play by senior Holly Levasseur and sophomores Esme Coes and Elsa Landy stopped many of Cushing's deadly opportunities. Cushing finally found the back of the net off of a beautiful corner aerial in the 2nd quarter. Half time allowed the Zebras to regroup, and they found a small spark in the 3rd quarter, led by junior Emma Poplyk. The Zebras earned two offensive corners and were able to score on both. As the game clock wore down, the Penguins had many opportunities and corners but junior goalie Dani Lawton turned all the shots away. The game ended in the Zebras favor 2-1 but the team needs to refocus before playing Dexter on Friday.
