LA has worked hard over the pass two years to retool their football program and has succeeded. We knew it would be a real challenge playing Lawrence Academy this week, but we were looking forward to the challenge and seeing how far we had come this season.
The team had a good week of practice and felt well prepared. Our offense received the ball to open the game. We started off sharp, completing our first three passes and moving the ball into LA territory. Unfortunately, our next pass was intercepted, and we turned the ball over to their very talented offense. Our defense came out fired up and hitting everything in sight but eventually LA was able to drive the ball and score for a 7-0 lead. Again, after receiving the kick-off, our offense moved the ball into LA territory, only to end up with another interception. The defense stood tall and caused LA to punt. But the offense could never find any momentum the entire afternoon, with mistakes and turnovers marking the rest of the first half. LA would lead 21-0 at halftime.
In the second half, with the defense still playing hard but on the field the majority of the time, it was obvious that the size and ability of the LA offense was really wearing our defense down. LA would score two more touchdowns in the third quarter for a 31-0 score, before both sides had their JV teams take over in the fourth.
Although the final score was lopsided, I could not have been prouder of the way our players played as a team and never stopped competing. Special note this game has to go out to all our defensive players. Up front- Nick DeBruin '22, Kevin Ma '22, Peter Sleeper '22, Hunter Kuftinec '23, Gabe Custodio '23, Charlie Haight '23, Nate Crozier '22, Max Toomey '22, Bo Bensley '23 and in the secondary- Eoin Morrissey '22, Mark Conde '22, Liam Connor '22, Malcolm Clark '23 and Chester Boynton '23.
Our next game will be a "Saturday Night Under the Lights" game at home on October 9
th at 6:00 pm against St. Mark's.
