On a cold and rainy family weekend, the Middlesex zebras welcomed an athletic and strong Thayer Academy team. The game had much back and forth play from the beginning, but the Middlesex Zebras were able to find the back of the net in the first quarter. The team was ready for half time, but Thayer found the back of the net with 0 seconds on the clock. A good reminder to play until the final whistle. That gave Thayer some momentum in the 2nd half but the Zebras did not back down, with senior Ava Romano finding the back of the cage in the 3rd quarter. Middlesex gave up a breakaway late in the 3rd, and even with an outstanding diving save by junior goalie Dani Lawton, Thayer scored on the rebound, tying the game at two. The time dwindled down and even though Middlesex dominated the 4th quarter and had many penalty corners and hit many posts, they could not score. Overtime ensued and within two minutes, Middlesex earned a penalty corner, then a stroke, and sophomore Molly Nye put the game winner away on a beautiful penalty stroke. It wasn't the prettiest game but the Zebras showed their true character and support for one another. On to Cushing!
