Heading into Brook's, this game had all the signs of being a very dangerous "trap game". We were coming off a big win over a perennial rival, scored a lot of points, and Brooks didn't have an impressive record. But you could see on film they had size and some very talented athletes. Team focus was off a little at the beginning of the week, but as we got closer to game day, you could feel the intensity build.
The MX 11 showed right away that they were ready for the game as the offense took the opening kickoff and drove the ball down the field culminating in a Cam Fries '22 QB sneak for the TD. Liam Connor added the PAT for a 7-0 lead. Even though that would be the only scoring in the quarter, our defense was setting the tone and in the second quarter would get the ball back for the offense twice, which resulted in a Connor 33-yard field goal and another Fries QB sneak for a 17-0 lead. Brooks connected on some pass plays late in the quarter to score just before halftime to make the score 17-7,
Again, in the second half, MX took advantage of their first possession. After crossing the 50, the MX 11 added a little flair to their offense when Liam Connor took the ball on a speed sweep, stopped and threw the ball to wide receiver Mark Conde '22 who ran a "stock and go" move getting open in the endzone to move the MX lead to 24-7. Brooks would score again in the third quarter but as the quarter ended the MX offensive line (Charlie Haight '23, Kevin Ma '22, Pranav Natarajan '22, Nick DeBruin '22, Peter Sleeper "22, and Nate Crozier '22) took over the game, essentially "running" out the clock. Mid-way thought the fourth quarter halfback Bo Bensley, following blocks by fellow running backs Chester Boynton '23 and Max Toomey '22, shook lose for a 37-yard TD run.  Although Brooks was able to score once more, MX would come away with a hard fought 31-20 victory.
At the end of the day, QB Cam Fries threw for 196 yards and scored two running TDs. Mark Conde led our receiving corps with 114 yards on 7 catches followed closely by Liam Connor with 105 yards on 4 catches. Also, thanks to the blocking of our offensive line, Bo Bensley ran for 144 yards on 19 carries.
Our next game will be on Saturday, October 30th at 2:30 pm against Tabor, as we celebrate Family Weekend.
