Varsity Field Hockey Edged by Exeter in Final Seconds

9/19/2019 1:48:00 PM

On a beautiful fall day, the Middlesex Zebras took the field against an athletic and powerful Exeter squad. It was hard for the Zebras to find their groove in the first fifteen minutes, and they found themselves mostly in their defensive end. Even though sophomore goalie, Dani Lawton turned away many Exeter shots, the visitors eventually put one in the back of the cage only ten minutes into the game. The Zebra's slowly began to pick up their communication and passing game, and regained the momentum in the second half. Due to sharp passing on the left hand side led by senior Syd MacKeigan, sophomore Abby Pratt put one in the back of the cage, evening the score at one all. The rest of the second half had back and forth play, with the Zebras creating many scoring opportunities. However, with less than a minute left, Exeter earned a corner, and scored the winning goal in the last six seconds. After this difficult end, the Zebra's are excited for their first ISL match on Saturday against the strong St. Mark's Lions.
