Middlesex traveled to play a talented and hard-working Groton team on Saturday, May 4. The MX Zebras opened the scoring in the 1st quarter, but Groton quickly scored the equalizer and ended the 1st tied at 1-1. We traded goals in the 2nd quarter and ended the first half tied at 3-3. Groton scored twice to open the 3rd quarter and went up 5-3, but then Middlesex scored 3 in a row to take the lead at 6-5 at the end of the 3rd. In the 4th quarter, the MX Zebras scored 2 in a row to take an 8-5 lead. Groton scored with 2 minutes left to make it 8-6, but our defense held and we hung on for the 8-6 win. Individually, the standout players for Middlesex were Harry Friedman (won 82% of the faceoffs), Mike Allieri (11 saves), Zack Goorno (3 goals, 1 assist), Liam Tasker (1 goal, 2 assists), Peter Gilbert (3 goals), and Cole Nye (2 assists, 6 ground balls). Middlesex travels to play a very strong Roxbury Latin team on Wednesday, May 8.
