After a cold and wet week of practice the weather cooperated by the weekend for our 115
th football game against archrival St. George's. As has been the case all season, our defensive unit set the tone for the day. Our "bend but don't break defense" gave up some early gains to St. George's but when the ball moved into the Red Zone this unit stiffened and shut the door. In fact, the defense was responsible for our first points, as they pinned St. George's deep in their own territory. An errant punt snap led to a safety and a 2-0 Middlesex lead. The MX offense seemed to be energized by the safety and took their very next possession in for a score. The touchdown covered the last 22 yards on a pass from quarterback Cole Cleary '20 to wide receiver Cole Nye '20. Liam Connor '22 added the PAT to increase the MX lead to 9-0. The offense continued it's assault in the second quarter, scoring three more times. Cole Cleary connected again on a 17-yard pass, this time to slotback Cedrick Paradis '20. Tailback Colin Cunningham scored the final touchdown of the game on a 9-yard run. Liam Connor not only added both PAT kicks but also booted another long field goal (43 yards) to end the first half and increase the MX lead to 26-0. Both teams moved the ball in the second half but neither crossed the end zone. Senior tailback Cunningham finished the game with 103 yards on 12 carries and our defensive unit registered their third shutout of the year. With this victory, the MX 11 and their 5-2-1 record qualified for the NEPSAC Football Bowl Series. The team found out Sunday afternoon that they were chosen to play The Canterbury School in the Mark Conroy Bowl this coming Saturday at New Milford High School Stadium (CT) at 1:00 pm. The team is proud of their accomplishments this season and look forward to the challenge of playing in the post-season.
