The Middlesex Zebras traveled to Cushing academy on a damp Wednesday afternoon for an out-of-league, class B match up. Cushing was fast, but seniors, Dahlia Galante and Riley Galizio, stopped many of their fast break opportunities. After great passing sequences on the left side of the field, led by sophomore, Brooke Nye and first year, Emma Poplyk, the Zebras found the back of the cage. The goal was a first for junior, Malloy Clifford. However, in the second half, the Zebras found themselves more on their heels, having to deal with constant attacks by the quick Cushing forwards. Sophomore goalie, Dani Lawton, made some amazing saves but Cushing was able to find the back of the cage twice, making the score 2-1. However, the Zebras were determined and with no time remaining on the clock, they earned an offensive corner. First year, Emma Poplyk found the back of the cage off of an assist from Holly Levassuer and Anna Simmons, which sent the game into overtime. In overtime, the Zebras had the early momentum but Cushing found the back of the cage on a reverse chip, that hit the crossbar and bounced into the cage, a tough way to lose a hard fought battle. The Zebras have another out-of-league game against Worcester Academy on Friday.Â
