Coming off a well-played game last weekend at Lawrence Academy, the team was eager to get back on the field for our third game of the season against St. Mark's.
Our defense again led the way. It took the first offensive drive for the defense to adjust to what St. Mark's was trying to do, but ended with a Middlesex goal line stand, at the 1 yard line, to keep St. Mark's off the scoreboard. Unfortunately, an errand punt snap would lead to a safety and St. Mark's only lead of the day at 2-0. The defensive unit would hold St. Mark's scoreless the rest of the way. Highlights for the defense were interceptions by Colin Cunningham '20, Sahnai Swain-Price '21 and Carter McCray '21, while Michael Conde '21 and Liam Alley '21 combined to force and recover a fumble deep in the visitors territory.  Â
The offensive unit had a breakout day scoring four touchdowns on route to a 28-2 victory. The running game started the MX scoring with a 6 yard run by fullback Axel Romell '21 and a two point conversion added by tailback Colin Cunningham. Tight end Sahnai Swain-Price would add an 11 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Cole Cleary '20 just before halftime to give MX a 14-2 lead. In the second half, the MX offense would add another running touchdown by Cunningham and connect on a 72 yard TD strike from Cleary to wide receiver Cal Fries '20. Liam Connor '22 added both extra points to finish the scoring. Credit for this victory has to go to our offensive line, Wes Capitani '20, Kevin Ma '22, Aaron Peroni '20, Nick DeBruin '22, Peter Sleeper '22, and Sahnai Swain-Price, both for their run blocking as well as their pass protection. Tailback Colin Cunningham gained 82 yards, scoring 8 points on the day while quarterback Cole Cleary threw for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. The MX 11 will have a short week to prepare for our next opponent, as we will travel to Groton for a 2:00 pm game this Friday.
