The Middlesex Zebras took the field on a perfectly crisp fall day against ISL rival, Brooks School. Brooks took control of the momentum in the early part of the first half, keeping the ball in the Zebra's defensive end. Ten minutes into the game, Brooks scored on a beautifully executed corner passing play, making the score 1-0. The Zebras picked up the pace, and created many offensive rushes but were unable to convert for the rest of the first half. The second half was a more even battle, with most of the play occurring between the 25 yard lines. Great tackles and defensive positioning by sophomore, Holly Levasseur, made it difficult for Brooks to create dangerous scoring opportunities for themselves. Unfortunately, Brooks converted on a defensive breakdown with fifteen minutes left in the second half, making the score 2-0. In typical, Middlesex fashion, the girls never gave up and played some of their best field hockey of the day. Their strong passing, hard steps to the ball, and precise communication finally payed off in the final two minutes of the game when freshman, Sage Piekarski, earned an offensive corner. Senior, Riley Galizio converted on the corner play off of a pass from freshman, Emma Poplyk. This was Riley's first Middlesex field hockey goal! Unfortunately, time expired before the Zebras could find the back of the cage again. Middlesex is back on the road on Tuesday against Governor's Academy.Â
