The MX 11 needed a fast start on the gridiron against Brooks and that's just what the defense gave us. It took a couple of series for this unit to familiarize themselves with the unconventional offense Brooks threw at us, but once they adjusted to it, our defense played shutout football the entire afternoon. This unit (Julian Farr '20, Wes Capitani '20, Nick DeBruin '22, Kevin Ma '22, Aaron Peroni '20, Mark Portlock '20, and Michael Conde '20 on the line, linebackers Joey Belsanti '21, Sahnai Swain-Price '21, Axel Romell '21, and Liam Alley '21, and Cedrick Paradis '20, Colin Cunningham '20, and Cole Nye '20 in the secondary) has set the tone for us in every game this season. It took the offense a little longer to find their groove, but by the start of the second quarter the passing game kicked into gear.
The MX scoring started with a 41-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cole Cleary '20 to wide receiver Cole Nye '20. Liam Connor '22 added the kick for an early 7-0 lead. MX would score again in the second quarter, this time on a more unconventional but just as effective play. On a 31-yard pass play, again from Cleary to Nye, the Brook's defender knocked the ball loose from Nye's hands on the four-yard line. As the ball rolled into the end zone, MX receiver Cal Fries '20 sprinted from his pass route to jump on the ball and claim the touchdown. MX entered halftime with a 13-0 lead. The running game dominated the rest of the game for the MX 11. Special praise has to go to our offensive line (Wes Capitani '20, Kevin Ma '22, Aaron Peroni '20, Nick DeBruin '22, Peter Sleeper'22, and Sahnai Swain-Price) for their solid work of opening holes for all our backs. Tailback Colin Cunningham '20 would run two more scores in, from 36 and 7 yards, to close the scoring and give Middlesex a 26-0 victory. The next game will be this coming Saturday, Parent's Weekend, at 3:00 PM.
