Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Loses to Governor’s Academy

5/24/2018 10:44:00 AM

Middlesex traveled to Governor's Academy on very warm Wednesday, May 24th. Governor's entered the game with 1 loss and tied with Nobles atop the ISL standings. The game was the 2nd annual Herter-Bidstrup Cup that is named in honor of legendary former coaches Ned Herter (Middlesex) and Peter Bidstrup (Governor's). Middlesex won the 1st ever Cup last year. Middlesex started the game strong with 2 straight goals, but Governor's countered with 2 of their own, and the score was tied 2-2 after the 1st quarter. The teams then traded goals in the 2nd quarter, and the score was tied 5-5 at the half, courtesy of an impressive underhand goal from Tyler Hughey with 5 seconds left in the half. Governor's started the 2nd half with 3 straight goals, and they gradually pulled away with the game ending with a score of 13-7.  Congrats to Governor's for sharing the ISL championship with Nobles and for wining the Herter / Bidstrup Cup. Middlesex had contributions from several players - notably: Tyler Hughey (2g, 1a), Cole Nye (2g), Zach Goorno (1g, 1a) and Mike Allieri (15 saves). BostonLax covered the game and has some great photos and video footage - here is the article.  We are home on Saturday 5/26 as we close out the season against our rival St. George's.
