The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team won its match against Thayer 8 - 7 in a close contest that went down to the last doubles match. Temperatures were in the high 50s with clear skies overhead, making for the best tennis weather we have had this season.Â
Despite somewhat of a sluggish start from the Zebras, losing 4/6 of the first sets, our team came out in the next round with renewed energy, reversing the scores to stay in the game. Singles matches were split by captain Helen Lasry '18 at #1, Maud McCole '19 at #2, Madeline Graham '18 at #4, and Averill Emery at #5. With unrelenting determination and patience, Miranda Fiore captured both of her sets at #3.Â
The overall score was tied 6 - 6 as the doubles matches set out. Margaret Rand '19 and Jessica Andrews '22 patiently drew errors from the other team and exploited their opponents' weaknesses at #3 to take the set 8 - 5. Lasry and McCole again proved a consistent, strategic doubles team at #1, gaining an early lead and outlasting their opponents 8 - 5 to clinch the overall match win for Middlesex.Â
After celebrating the hard-earned win this weekend, our players will look forward to hosting Lawrence Academy on Wednesday.Â
