The Middlesex Girls Varsity Tennis lost its match against Milton 4 - 11, scoring the best results against fellow ISL team in recent history. The match was played in cool, breezy sunny conditions outdoors.Â
Determined to put up a good fight, the singles lineup led by captain Helen Lasry '18 set out to take control of the mental game and deliberate point construction. A major highlight of the overall match was a competitive performance by #4 singles player Madeline Graham '18 who won both of closely contested singles sets 7-5, and 7-6 (TB: 8-6). Averill Emery at #5 singles also had a tight first set, losing 4 - 6 but came out in the second with more resolve. Her improved stroke execution and grit brought her through the tiebreaker to win the point for the Zebras 7-6 (TB: 7-3). Both singles scorers went into their doubles matches with positive momentum; they played a confident match and secured the set for their team 8 - 6. Indeed, it was a good day for Graham who won all three of her played sets.Â
The group will put in two practices before hosting Thayer Academy on Saturday afternoon.
