The Middlesex Girls' Hockey team defeated ISL opponent Groton School in an exciting match up Wednesday afternoon. Both teams came out flying from the first drop of the puck and relentlessly pressure each other all over the ice. Groton took the lead partway through the first period, but Middlesex bounced back and scored with 17 seconds remaining in the first period to tie the game. On the goal, Middlesex had cleared the puck out of the defensive end, and Ali Joseph out hustled the Groton player to the puck, drove to the net, and slid a perfect pass to Kiley Briand who was screaming down into the slot. Briand collect the pass and beat the Groton goalie to tie the game, swinging the momentum in Middlesex's favor. During the second period, Middlesex scored again during a battle in front of the net when Izzy Allieri fired the puck home after receiving it from Joseph and Briand. Goaltender Caroline Silk defended the Middlesex net throughout the rest of the game and turned away every single shot from Groton. As the clock ticked down during the third period, Middlesex notched another goal to solidify the lead. After controlling the puck in the offensive zone, Itsy Seeman sent a pass to the corner to Angelina DeVellis who immediately moved it to Nicollette Roark who was all alone in front of the net. Maintaining her coolness under pressure, Roark sniped the top corner and the rink erupted with cheers. As hard as Groton tried to get on the board, Middlesex denied every opportunity and won the game 3-1. The Middlesex Girls' Hockey team will face off against Hebron at home on Friday. Â
