Girls' Varsity Hockey Earns Stunning Shutout Victory Over Thayer

2/4/2018 10:36:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Hockey team pulled out a stunning victory over a tenacious Thayer Academy team Saturday afternoon. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first period but neither team was able to find the back of the net with the puck. Goaltender Caroline Silk '18 denied every offensive attempt from the aggressive forwards of Thayer. Middlesex broke the scoreless tie during the second period while on a power play. Angelina DeVellis '19 scored an unassisted goal after walking the seam off the sideboards and beating the goalie on the nearside post. Thirty seconds later, Middlesex scored again during a rush into Thayer's zone where they controlled the puck and executed a succession of tic-tac-toe passes. Izzy Allieri '21 made a "thread the needle pass" to Ali Joseph '20 who was waiting on the backdoor to send the puck home. The momentum continued to pick up for Middlesex as they dominated the rest of the period. In the final period, Thayer attempted to fight back, but their onslaughts were continuous shut down by Silk. Middlesex notched another goal during a fast break up the ice. DeVellis touched it past the defenseman, bombed down the ice with the puck, and made a perfect tape to tape pass to Roark who had jumped up in the rush. Roark took one look at the net and roofed the puck to the top corner. The Middlesex team never let up for an instance and won the game 3-0 with Silk recording a shut-out. Middlesex faces off against ISL rival Groton next Wednesday.
