In most cases, whatever the weather, it's just another challenge for young men playing football in the Northeast. Last Saturday was something else though, as Middlesex took on Nobles in a genuine Nor'easter. The rain and wind set the tone early in the game-with rain, wind, and mud taking over by the fourth quarter.
Nobles took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, as their running game caused the MX defense early problems. But as the MX defense settled in, they held Nobles scoreless for the rest of the half, until an untimely turnover gave them the ball on the MX 15 yard line. They ran the ball in from there and with the 2 point conversion took a 14-0 halftime lead.
The MX offense had a difficult time all day, with the pass games of both sides almost nonexistent, the MX offense turned to captain Kabelo Tsotetsi '19 and the run game. Although the offense moved the ball, they were never able to capitalize when they got into Nobles territory.
The rest of the scoring all happened in the third quarter, with Nobles scoring first and MX special teams answering immediately with a 91 yard kickoff return by wide receiver Cole Nye '20. Nobles would end the scoring on another short run to bring them the victory, 26-6.
It's sometimes difficulty to find positives in a loss, but not in this game. The MX players, on both sides of the ball, should be very proud of their gritty performance all day against a highly favored Nobles squad. Our next game will be at home against Roxbury Latin this coming Friday at 2:45.
