The Middlesex varsity volleyball team hosted Nobles and Greenough to conclude their busy Parents' Weekend festivities on Saturday, October 20. While the Zebras improved their level of play in each set, they ultimately lost 0-3 to a strong opponent.
The first set featured consistent serving by Middlesex, but the Zebras struggled to execute their offense, and the set closed 11-25. The Zebras made some adjustments, particularly on serve receive, before the second set, and were able to stay competitive as middle Kiley Briand '20 blocked an overpass of a tough serve by setter Sofia Dickinson '22. Later, libero Sevilla Jin '21, setter Sophia Poplyk '21, and outside hitter Mayu Lee '20 each dished up some aces to keep the score competitive, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead again in the end to also take the second set 17-25.
In the final set, the two teams traded sideouts for much of the early part of the set, with important kills by right side Morgan Clapp '22 and middle Natalie McCall '21 at key moments. Captain and outside hitter Hadley Jevon '19 had a strong service run near the end of the set to put the Zebras within striking distance, but the set closed at 18-24.
The Zebras were still encouraged by their improved play in each set, and look forward to hosting Rivers on Wednesday, October 24 for a 4:30pm match.
