The game started off well with both defenses holding their opponents to a couple of punts.  Thayer opened the scoring on a long pass play at the end of the first quarter.  The hosts added to their lead in the second quarter, when a short MX punt gave them excellent field position, and they scored on a short goal line pass.  MX mounted two successful offensive drives in the second quarter but was unable to score and cut into Thayer's 13-0 halftime lead.
The game clincher came as we opened the second half, on a line drive kick. Thayer was able to quickly break through our coverage and return the kick off for an early second half touchdown. Thayer added another touchdown before the MX offense would finally break into the scoring column.  Quarterback Cole Cleary '20 hit slot receiver Axel Romell '21 on a 16 yard scoring strike.  Liam Connor '22 added the PAT for the game's final score of 27-7.  MX will play Rivers in their home opener next Saturday at 2:30.
