The Middlesex girls' hockey team opened up the New Year with an exciting victory on the road against the Albany Acadmey for Girls. Middlesex took the lead early in the first period after a scramble in front of Albany's net where Izzy Allieri buried the puck with assists from Ali Joseph and Itsy Seeman. Albany answered back at the end of the period with a goal to tie the game. Middlesex returned to the ice in the second period fired up and ready to capitalize. Forty seconds into the period, Middlesex scored to take the lead when Allieri notched her second goal of the game in the top corner of the net. Allieri's goal was assisted by Joseph and Kiley Briand. Later in the period, Middlesex scored again when Joseph pick-pocketed the opposing defenseman, walked in alone on the goalie, and sent a low shot to the back of the net. Albany answered back with a goal a few minutes later and the teams headed to the locker rooms with a score of 3-2. As play resumed in the third period, both teams battled back and forth. Middlesex fought off each offensive push from Albany. With three minutes to go in the game, Allieri netted her third goal of the game and notched her first hat trick in a Middlesex jersey. Briand fed Allieri the puck in front of the net who kicked it up with her skate and drove it home into the net in one fluid motion. In their first outing against Albany Academy, Middlesex won 4-2. Middlesex's next game will be at home against Winsor on Friday, January 5th.
