Girls' Varsity Tennis Falls at Milton

4/20/2017 5:27:00 PM

The Girls' Varsity Tennis team put up a good fight but were ultimately overpowered by Milton's star lineup Wednesday afternoon 1 - 14. The match began under partially cloudy skies with a bit of wind. Soon more clouds rolled in with chillier temperatures along with light rain.
Senior Sophia Corning faced the #1 ranked player in Massachusetts (#2 in the region) Semi Oloko at the top of the singles ladder. Her opponent certainly showed her credentials on the court, dictating the points with powerful strokes and refined skill. While our girls were able to eke out games against the Mustangs, the match went into doubles without a single set in our favor. Senior captain Caroline Reynolds and sophomore Maud McCole were determined after their singles matches and used aggressive tactics at net to take the set 8 - 6 and put the Zebras on the board.
Overall, the team was encouraged by solid performances against a strong opponent, and the squad will practice once more before traveling to Braintree to face Thayer Academy Friday evening.
