What a difference a week makes. The first game jitters were gone and the inexperience of many of our younger players seemed to be replaced by a firm resolve to get the team back in the win column.
The MX defense had to lead the way in the first half while the offense was getting on track. The offense had some long drives but was not able to come away with any points. In the meantime, the Zebra defense was settling in to the Rivers offense, with a fourth down stop in the first quarter and an eight play goal line stand just before halftime to keep the score 0-0.
The defense also set up our first score, in the third quarter, on an interception by Cole Nye '20 who ran the ball back to the Rivers 4 yard line. From there the offense took over as halfback Kabelo Tsotetsi '19 ran it in on the first play after the turnover. Pat McGann '18 added the PAT. McGann also had a tremendous day kicking off, as two kicks went into the end zone and the other two were caught inside the 5 yard line. The tide of the game really turned after the Zebra's first score, as the MX 11 would score once more at the end of the third quarter, Kabelo on a 2 yard run and again at the beginning of the fourth quarter with Michael Best '18 on a 1 yard run. Pat McGann converted both PATs and the defense completed the shut out for a final score of 21-0.
The interior defense of Kam Landry '18, Derek DeLaine '19, Aidan Conway '18, Burnham Lewis '18, Alek Kebabjian '20 and Jack Canniff '18 played exceptionally well against Rivers' run game, with our secondary of Colin Cunningham '20, Oliver Quon '19 and Cole Nye '20 collecting two interceptions. On offense, credit has to go to our line for opening the holes our running game needed- Casey Gillis '19, Dan Kent '19, Alex Flynn '19, Liam Alley '21, Andoni Barberena-Yutes '19, Burnham Lewis '18. Our next game will be this coming Saturday, October 7th at home against St. Mark's at 3:00PM.
