It's always hard to say that your team had a great game after a loss, but that was definitely the case with our Nobles game last weekend. Coming into the game, on paper at least, Middlesex looked like a decided underdog due to Nobles formidable advantage in size. But during the week's preparation this never entered the discussion, instead the entire team looked upon this game as an opportunity to step up and show the league what it was made of.Â
The game started with all the momentum on the Middlesex side, as the offense took the opening kick and drove the ball down the field with Kabelo Tsotetsi '19 finishing the drive on a 21 yard TD run. Pat McGann '18 kicked the PAT for Middlesex to take the early lead 7-0. Nobles recaptured the lead, 14-7, in the 2nd quarter on two touchdown drives. Just before halftime, Middlesex moved the ball into the Nobles red zone as time was running out. After spiking the ball to stop the clock, McGann kicked a 27 yard field goal to tighten the score at the half to a 14-10 Nobles advantage. Both teams swapped TDs in the 3rd quarter with Middlesex scoring on a 4 yard pass from QB Derek DeMarzo '18 to TE Burnham Lewis '18 for a 21-16 Nobles lead going into the 4th quarter. As the scoreless 4th quarter continued, Nobles finally wore the MX defense down and scored twice late in the quarter to make the final score 34-16. The final score was not an accurate indication of the heart and competitive spirit that the Middlesex football team poured into this entire game.
Special note goes to our entire defensive unit for its gritty play throughout the game. Â Defensive Line - Burnham Lewis '18, Anders Newburg '18, Kam Landry '18, Aidan Conway '18, Derek DeLaine '19 and Wes Capitani '20. Linebackers - Cormac Duhamel '18, Cam Parker '18, Jack Canniff '18 and Alek Kebabjian '20 and secondary - Colin Cunningham '20, Oliver Quon '19, Cole Nye '20 and Joe Belsanti '21.
Due to SAT's and Daylight Savings time this coming weekend the team will be traveling to Roxbury Latin on Friday for a 2:30 start.    Â
