The Middlesex Zebras welcomed ISL rival St. Mark's on a beautiful fall day for their home opener. In a rematch of last year's New England Class B semi-final game, both teams fought for every ball in the opening minutes, resulting in much play between the 25 yard lines. However, as the Zebras began to find their rhythm, they broke into the St. Mark's circle and began peppering the goalie with shots. Finally, converting on a scrum in front, the Zebras took a 1-0 lead with 15:16 remaining in the first half. St. Mark's answered eleven minutes later on a breakdown to tie the score with 4:15 remaining in the half. Tenacity and determination brought Middlesex back into the St. Mark's territory, and just one minute later, they gained the lead off a well-executed corner play. In the second half, play was back and forth, but St. Mark's notched the equalizer six minutes into the half. Again, the Zebras fought back and scored the game winner with 16 minutes remaining in the game. While both teams had opportunities, the score remained at 3-2 in Middlesex's favor. The team will go back on the road to take on St. Paul's on Wednesday, September 28th.
