Strong Doubles Lift Zebras Over Tabor, 9-6

5/22/2016 6:49:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis Team celebrated its 4th win in a row against Tabor 9 - 6 Saturday afternoon in front of a supportive crowd of alums, faculty, family, and friends. Not only did the Zebras score another W, but they also swept doubles, and everyone who played earned a point for the team. What's more, rookie freshman Maud McCole played her first singles match of her varsity career!
Going into the match without two of its top 4 players, the team decided early on that there would be no excuses, even as everyone played up in position. Led by Leyla Hotasmisligil '18 at #1 singles, points were earned by Leyla, Laura Kaye '17, Emma Pratt '16, and Maud who all split sets with their opponents. Caroline Reynolds '17 won both of her very competitive sets 6 - 4, 7 - 5. And so, the Zebras were tied up with the Seawolves 6 - 6 at the end of singles, as the doubles matches began.
All three very competitive double points were captured (and the overall match secured) behind the solid team work of Leyla and senior captain Abby Meyers (9 - 7), Caroline and Laura (8 - 6), and Emma and Maud (8-4).
It's hard to believe that there is just one week left of the season! Our team looks forward to returning to ISL competition against Govs on Wednesday with an overall record of 5 - 8.
