The Zebras came out firing in the first minutes of play. While Middlesex dominated play, the Groton defense held strong. Finally, with 15 minutes of play remaining in the first half, Middlesex executed on one of many shots to take a 1-0 lead. Groton answered with a few offensive surges, but the strong Middlesex defensive unit shut down the speedy and athletic Groton forwards. In the second half, the Middlesex Zebras wasted no time, scoring in the first minute to take a two goal lead. Groton continued to fight, but goalie Isabella Costantino fended off two powerful shots from the opponents. The Zebras secured the win with a beautiful goal with 17 minutes remaining. Sophie MacKeigan nearly notched a fourth with an awesome breakaway, but the Groton goalie got a piece of the ball to stop the charge. Middlesex will rest this long weekend and begin preparation for two big Class A games next week.
