The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team lost to St. Mark's 12-3 ,Monday afternoon. The Zebras traveled to St. Mark's to make up the canceled match from Saturday due to high winds. It was the team's first competitive match of the season and the first ISL match for rookies Leyla Hotamisligil '18, Electra Washburn '15, and Emma Pratt '16.
Abby Meyers '16 at #4 singles was the first to put Middlesex on the board. Both players in the match employed their best defensive tactics, moving each other around the court. Each point was a long and drawn out battle of determination. While Abby lost the first set 4 - 6, she was able to outlast her opponent in the second set 6 - 4.
Middlesex took two out of the three of the doubles points, as their good teamwork and tactics were put to the test. At #2, Emma Pratt and Electra Washburn won their set 8 - 5. Senior duo Katherine Khoury and Anna Seigel at #3 also triumphed with a final score of 8 - 5.
The team's #1 singles player, Sophia Corning '17, suffered a preseason back injury and did not play in Monday's match. She looks forward to getting back into competitive play as soon as she is recovered.
Middlesex looks forward to a hard and focused practice Tuesday to get ready to battle St. Paul's on Wednesday for their first home match of the season.
