The Zebras traveled to Rivers on a cold rainy afternoon. Both teams came out a bit flat in the opening minutes as the play was sloppy in the adverse conditions. Much of the play was between the 25 yard lines in the first half with Rivers earning a few more chances with more penalty corner opportunities. In the second half, the Middlesex squad played tough and gritty. It wasn't always pretty, but they got the job done in the first eight minutes of play when senior Ellie Herring put the Zebras on the board. The lead would be short-lived however, as Rivers notched the equalizer just two minutes later on a scrum in front of the Middlesex net. The Zebras ignited after the goal and began picking away at the stingy Rivers defense. Middlesex had opportunities in the circle while the strong defensive unit held the Rivers forwards back on their fast break offensive runs. Finally, Middlesex found the back of the net with 5:52 remaining to take the lead. As the time dwindled, Rivers had a few chances, but the Zebra defense held strong and turned away a crucial penalty corner in the final minutes. Overall, it was a sloppy, wet day, but the Zebras prevailed with grit and perseverance and will take two days to prepare for Thayer on Saturday, October 31st.
