The Zebras traveled to Byfield to face a talented Governor's squad. Both teams battled in the first ten minutes, as much of the play was between the 25 yard lines, but the Govs team came alive with the help of some corner opportunities. Goalie Cece DeSimone was tested on several occasions, but she stymied the Govs forwards on many occasions to keep the score at 0-0. The defensive unit also contributed with many stops and effective clears outside the circle. In the second half, the teams continued to battle with the home team taking more shots, but DeSimone and new defender Sophie "Keigs" MacKeigan came up big on several occasions to keep the game scoreless. With six minutes remaining, Middlesex found the back of the net in a terrific and gritty offensive surge. As the time dwindled, the Zebras refused to let down and despite playing a player down from four to two minutes, the defenders and midfielders persevered. The Zebras defensive corner team was relentless as they broke up a final corner attempt for Govs. Today was a huge team effort and each player, whether in practice or on in the game, contributed to today's win. Middlesex will take a day to prepare for Groton on Friday, October 16.
