Zebras Fall to Lions 3-2 in Third Period Comeback

1/23/2015 10:17:00 AM

After a scoreless first period, Middlesex Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey took a one goal lead as Leah Olson '15 went coast to coast and ripped a shot past the St. Mark's goalkeeper. Three minutes later, the Zebras took advantage of a powerplay, as Caelin Flaherty '18 buried a shot from just above the goal line off assists from Olson and Mary Demoulas to lead the Lions 2-0 heading into the third period. But St. Mark's rebounded and tied the game on a powerplay with five minutes remaining in the period. After a defensive breakdown, St. Mark's scored the go ahead goal with two and half minutes to play. Middlesex pulled goalkeeper Caroline Silk '18 for the extra skater but St. Mark's held on for the 3-2 victory.

Middlesex returns to the ice on Friday, Jan. 23 at Cushing Academy at 5:00 p.m.
