After two tight losses in two excellent games, the boys' lacrosse team seemed determined to put their final game away early. St. George's came to Concord and had a pretty good case of bus legs, it seemed.
Sam Carlin, true to form, won the first few face offs and the bulk of them over the course of the afternoon. Middlesex got a couple of pretty transition goals and moved the ball well against St G's zone, getting a number of great opportunities. Our shots were on target and true. The Zebras were able to gain a sizable 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and were up 11-0 by halftime.
Our seniors all had a great day on the turf. Michael Howe led the charge with five goals, Jordan Fong had one goal and six assists, while Sam Muse had two goals and three assists. In addition, Charlie Owen and Sean Pensavalle each chipped in two goals of their own. The seniors accounted for 12 of the 17 goals, while Mike Menter, Luke Cree and Nick Colangelo had great defensive plays in front of Michael O'Keeffe (playing in his last high-school lacrosse game). Fittingly, Michael registered the first shutout of his career which he will take to St. John's next year. Henry Gans was only able to make a cameo appearance in this game as he was injured in the last game. Henry was an important anchor of our defense this whole season and we will miss his talents next year.
Happily, seven of our 10 seniors will be playing college lacrosse. I want to thank all of our seniors for their leadership and for providing much of the push as we completed our 13-2 season.
It was a great day to play the game!
