Boys' Varsity Lacrosse Defeated by Governor's in OT

5/22/2014 10:43:00 AM

After falling to a talented Belmont Hill squad on Saturday, the boys' varsity lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday to take on yet another powerhouse lacrosse team, Governor's Academy. Unfortunately the tides were not in Middlesex's favor yet again as the Zebras fell to their opponent 9-8 in overtime.

Middlesex got down by two towards the end of the first quarter before they were able to light up the scoreboard with :18 seconds left in the period.  The Zebras tallied two more in the second quarter, after which GA's Gwozdz tied it up going into the half.  The face-off men were pretty much splitting the draws, and in a game like this possession is a premium commodity.

In the third period, GA got three, one of which was the result of a two-minute locked in penalty.   With GA up 6-3 and MX still down a man, Sam Carlin won the next face off and brought it down to score, and then took the ensuing face-off down and scored again 11 seconds later.  He won the next face off and after a short possession, Howe tied up the game 6-6.  The momentum continued to flow in our favor with another goal to put us up by one, going into the last period 7-6.  Sean Pensavalle put in his third of the day dodging from behind the cage and James Burr added one to go up 9-6.  However, as has been the MO for GA this season, they never gave up, and answered with three of their own putting the game into overtime.

Middlesex had a few opportunities but then got a penalty, and perhaps fittingly, Azarela took a feed from Larsen Bidstrup to win this one for Governor's.  Again, it was a game of inches.

Congratulations to Peter, Larsen and the Governor's team to finish their season having never given up!
