With senior captain Olivia Dewey injured and unable to play her usual spot at the top of the singles and doubles ladders, each of the other players on the Middlesex girls' tennis team stepped up their game to fill her spot. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome Tabor in a close match.
Tabor travelled to play Middlesex outdoors Saturday to find sun and warm temperatures in the 70s.
The Zebras scored five out of twelve singles points. Charlotte Flint split sets against her enigmatically consistent opponent at #1 singles, as she fought to adjust her game in an effective way. Abby Myers at #3 singles quickly learned how to exploit her opponent's weakness and took both sets 6-3, 6-4. Laura Kaye played some of her best tennis this season at #5 singles, winning both sets by strategically mixing up her shots and setting up points. The score does not show how well
Katherine Khoury played in her first singles match at #6; she went into deuce in most games, though losing both sets.
Everyone played commendably in a new lineup for doubles. A highlight was #1 doubles team Charlotte Flint and Caroline Reynolds who employed good teamwork and strategy to beat their opponents 8 - 3.
The team looks forward to finishing the season healthy and strong in the final matches this week versus Governor's and St. George's.
