Zebras Edge Past Red Wings 6-5

4/28/2014 9:51:00 AM

The boys' varsity lacrosse team escaped with a win in Weston, MA on Saturday September 26 against a talent Rivers squad. Both teams had outstanding goaltending on the day and bought their "A game."

Middlesex scored first, but Cleveland answered for Rivers soon thereafter. The teams then traded another pairs of goals to finish the period tied at 2-2. However, O'Hare and Cleveland put Rivers up 4-2 at the halftime.

The Zebras notched a goal early in the second half to close the gap, and with one second left after a couple of gilmans back and forth, Fong found Pensavalle in front of the cage to tie the game at 4-4. Pensavalle got another tally a minute later in the fourth quarter. McCaffery tied it with six minutes left. Each team had some opportunities but the defensive units and goalies stood tall. Rivers had another good offensive set with about two minutes left but the Zebras did not let up;  Middlesex found themselves with the ball with 30 seconds remaining in regulation…Burr found Sam Muse up top who found a top corner with seven seconds left to end the game.

Rivers plays great lacrosse and the Zebras were fortunate to walk away with the 6-5 victory. The team hits the road next when they face St. Sebastian's at 3:30pm on Wednesday, April 30.
