vs Brooks and Lincoln

Girls' Varsity Crew Remains Undefeated at Home

4/27/2014 9:48:00 AM

Middlesex girls' varsity crew improved to 10-0 at home (16-6 overall) as they swept Brooks and Lincoln on the Concord river on Saturday, April 26th.  Conditions were wet and chilly, but there was little wind and the water was flat - ideal for racing.  The race order was 2-1-4-3 to allow for a hot seat between second and third.

In the first boat race, Middlesex jumped to a lead off the start and continued to pull ahead, as Brooks and Lincoln battled it out for second and third.

In the second boat race, Brooks leaped off the start at a blazing 36 strokes per minute, but second boat stroke Kate Wood '15 maintained her composure and held a solid 32.  Pulling away from Lincoln, the two crews stayed even through the 1000-meter mark, when the Middlesex crew slowly but surely rowed through Brooks, understroking them the whole way.

In the third boat race, Middlesex, Brooks, and Lincoln all got off the line even, but by the 500-meter mark, Middlesex and Brooks had put distance between them and Lincoln.  Again, Middlesex rowed through Brooks while understroking them.  Lincoln caught a boat-stopping crab right at the finish line and drifted over.

The fourth boats battled head-to-head until the 1000-meter mark, at which point Middlesex pulled ahead.  Brooks made a few challenges, but Middlesex was able to hold them off.
