Middlesex found itself outmatched this week by Milton's formidable lineup. It was a sunny, but chilly day with temperatures in the low 40s. All matches except #2 and #6 singles were played indoors.
Olivia Dewey eked out one game over her nationally ranked opponent (the #3 player in MA) at #1 singles. Charlotte Flint also played her best match so far this season, going into deuce on many of her games against an opponent ranking 122 in the U.S.
A highlight at #6 singles was freshman Caroline Reynolds who came out ready to play. She was ahead in her first set up until the last few games. She continued to hold on and battle out each point and each game. Ultimately, she was defeated by a more experienced opponent who was able to break her each time for the match.
These first few matches have been tough for Middlesex, but will prove to be invaluable competitive experience later in the season for a growing and developing team. The Zebras will put in two intense days of practice and look forward to facing Thayer Academy
on Saturday.
