The girls' varsity ice hockey team traveled to Newport, RI for their final game of the 2013-2014 winter season. The Zebras left everything they had on the ice and as a result came home with a resounding 4-0 victory over the Dragons of St. George's .
Middlesex opened the scoring for the afternoon just 11:18 into the first period. Minutes later, freshman Sage Nye tallied her first career goal off a back hand shot to increase the scoring back by two. The Dragons continued to apply the pressure to the Middlesex defense but Christina Cleroux '14 turned away all six of their shots to preserve the lead.
The Zebras picked up right where they left off to start the second period. They outshot their opponent 13-6 and scored their third goal of the afternoon on a power play at the 10:49 mark. Â The forward line of Cici Frattasio '14, Sarah Tabeek '14 and Maddie Winslow '14 put on an impressive show with their beautiful passing sequences all over the ice. Meanwhile, Arushi Ray '14, Hailey Porter '14, Juliette Bendheim '16 and Sage Nye shutdown numerous scoring opportunities for the Dragons with their two-way hockey style of play.
Brooke Gary '14, Leah Olson '15, Mary Demoulas '16, Caelin Flaherty '17 and Brenna Chitkara '17 fought tirelessly in the third period to help Cleroux maintain the shutout. In addition, Pauline Santry '17 and Madeleine Coleman '16 helped ignite the forward line with their aggressive play in the offensive zone. And just 14:25 into the period, Middlesex went full steam ahead, scoring their final goal of the 2013-2014 season to bring home the 4-0 team victory.
Middlesex ends their season with an overall record of 11-9-1 and says goodbye to the talents of seven outstanding seniors:Â Hailey Porter, Arushi Ray, Sarah Tabeek, Maddie Winslow, Christina Cleroux, Brooke Gary and Cici Frattasio.
