The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey team opened their 2014-15 campaign with a decisive 5-1 victory over visiting Kents Hill Friday evening. Senior Leah Olson scored her first hatrick of the year and picked up two assists to lead the Zebras with five points.
Mary Demoulas opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the first period off a stellar assist from Olson. She then returned the favor, finding Olson in the slot for the Zebras second goal of the period. Caelin Flaherty also picked up an assist on the play. Middlesex added to their lead in the second period when Flaherty score from the point. Sarah Arsenau scored the lone goal of the game for Kents Hill at 8:16 of the second period but the Zebras maintained a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
In the third, Olson scored twice more with assists to Siobhan Morrissey, Pauline Santry and Demoulas.
Middlesex returns to the ice on Wednesday, December 10 at home against Proctor Academy.
